Centre for Data Science is planning to organize technical workshops to introduce emerging data processing techniques and frameworks. At the first workshop, Mr. PakLon Ip, ICI Research Assistant, shared a brief introduction to Yolo V3 (https://pjreddie.com/darknet/yolo/) that is a popular deep learning model on object detection task.
Object detection involves identifying the presence, location, and type of one or more objects in a photo. In recent years, deep learning techniques demonstrate the superiority of object detection on standard benchmark datasets and many computer vision competitions. YOLO, family of Convolutional Neural Networks, is the one who achieved near state-of-the-art results with a single end-to-end model and performed object detection in real-time. The workshop covered not only the basic theory but also a hands-on tutorial on training a yolo v3 model. These may help students get started quickly and easily build their own deep learning models in the future.
